Where they stand on data centers
On concerns about hyperscale data centers
As I’ve been walking Ward 2 and talking with residents, I haven’t heard many people bring up data centers, but I do have concerns that deserve clear answers. A data center can have a significant environmental footprint, especially when it comes to electricity and water use. These facilities can require large amounts of power, millions of gallons of water for cooling, and major infrastructure support. Before any project moves forward, the public deserves to know exactly what those impacts would be and who would bear the cost.
How they’d address those concerns
My responsibility, if elected, would be to the people of this community. That means asking how a project like this benefits Ward 2. Does it create meaningful jobs? Does it strengthen our local economy? Does it improve quality of life? Or does it place additional strain on our utilities and resources without providing a clear return for residents? I believe in transparency, accountability, and making sure the public is informed before decisions are made. If a data center is proposed in Rapid City, I will insist on open communication, clear environmental impact information, and a full explanation of how it will, or will not, serve the people who live here.
